Back to School 2017

I was ready but I wasn't. 

 I had purchased the curriculum, binder, and notebooks. 

 I had made numerous lists and brainstorming webs my program plan was in. 

 I'd printed copywork and worksheets.  

But all of the sudden it was the night before school and then the morning of.  

I wasn't ready for this.

I started the day with yoga and meditation, a shower and coffee.  

Me first so I had something to give to them.

There was no use putting it off, it was time for school.

We'll call it a soft start what we did, not to much work gets done on the first day in the public school either I guess.  Same same, but different.

 There was some colouring, some writing, copywork, and a mandatory quiet time after lunch.

 But there was time for trampoline, and Barbies and in the afternoon it was hot

 so we did a slip and slide.

Merry Christmas 2014

Extra Cuddles

Yesterday morning both Luca and I woke up startled.  We had both been having a dream that we lost each other. We started the day with some cuddles.

Yesterday as I drove I was extra careful watching for the deer and elk on the side of the road, careful not to look at the beautiful sunset for too long.

Last night at bedtime the other three went off to bed earlier.  Luca and I ended the day with some cuddles.

That night was the kind of night I spent time in each kids bed.  No complaints, just cuddles.

Quicktakes - Winter 2014

1. Wavy broke her collar bone...again.  My poor fragile girl. A funny little fall off the couch sent us to emerg. for the evening and she is back in a brace for 6+ weeks.

 

2. We had our first experience with lice.  Thankfully our friends gave us the heads up and we caught it early.  Many hours were spent over a couple weeks sitting in front of the TV combing through the girls hair with a nit comb.  Now tell me your head isn't itchy.

3. We took a mini-break to Canmore as a family.  We did some x-country skiing at the Canmore Nordic Center, some swimming and just hung out.  It was wonderful!

 

4. Nollie, Luca and I did our first x-country ski lopet.  The girls each did the 1km and I did the 11km, more than twice the distance that I have skied previously.

        

5. Curt has been busy in the shop and hopes to be putting up the remainder of the trim starting later this weekend. Some day our house will be finished!

 

6. Finley has been busy.  He loves to grab a hand-full of clothes from his drawer and get himself dressed.  He is a chatty little boy and talks more and more every day.

7. The diamond just fell out of my ring, like right now, and I found it.

Luca is S-i-x

Luca turned six years old this week!

She is extremely competitive and hates to lose.

Luca loves looking pretty.

She loves music and dancing.

Luca is very determined and will work hard to accomplish what she wants.  Most recently it has been handstands.  We have mats set up in our house where she does handstands against the wall every day.

Luca loves to cook and bake. 

She has most recently mastered pancakes .

This year she lost her first tooth

and started grade one.

First Day of School Photos 2013

Today was the first day back to school at our house and all went well (not to be mistaken with perfect.)

Nollie asked why she had to do easy work. 

Luca was ready to do her work first and get the most pages done. The competitive one.

Waverly wanted to be doing work just like her sisters.  She kept saying “now do me Mom.” 

Finley crawled onto the table several times and dumped a lot of pens on the floor but mostly just played happily.

This Little Boy is One

 Finn had his first birthday last week.  I can't believe it!

We call him, Finley, Finn, Finny, Mr. Fister, Mister,  Finny-Finny-Coco-Bop,  Monster, or just Trouble.

He is determined and when he sets his mind to something he tries for it over, and over again.

 

 He loves water-play including the bath, the pool, the sink, the dog dish and even the toilet.

and he loves to be outside!

Rainbow Cake

Last weekend we had my parents and sisters over for supper and cake to celebrate my parent's birthday's and anniversary.  Since it happened to be on St. Patrick's Day I thought it would be a great time to try out a rainbow cake.  I have after all pinned rainbow cakes at least 5 times on Pinterest I'm sure.  I used the recipe from The Little Epicurean but I just put regular buttercream frosting on it.  I think this is the first cake I have made where I didn't have crumbs all through the icing.  Just seeing all that colour makes me happy!
